Part-time FAQ's

1. What is a new employee and when do benefits become effective for employees hired on or after January 1st, 2018?

A new employee is defined as an employee without active benefits. If you are a Part-time employee with a pay code of B, E, F, or L, you are eligible to participate.

 

You may enroll in the Cigna LocalPlus healthcare plan and/or Flexible Benefits for you and/or your eligible dependents. Benefits will be effective the first of the following month. The cost of these benefits will NOT be deducted from your paycheck.  If you enroll in the Cigna LocalPlus plan, you will be able to enroll in plan of your choice during the following plan year after satisfying 12 months of continuous employment in a benefits-eligible position.

 

 

2. Do I need to enroll?

No. However, you will not be able to enroll in benefits until the following Open Enrollment period.

 

3. How do I enroll?

To obtain a healthcare benefits enrollment package, contact Miami-Dade County Public Schools:

To obtain a Flexible Benefits enrollment form, contact FBMC Service Center:

1-855-MDC-PS4U (1-855-632-7748), Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. ET.

 

4. Can I enroll in Accidental Death & Dismemberment Coverage?

Yes, except if you are represented by the AFSCME labor union.  AFSCME employees CAN NOT enrolls in this benefit.
